Rio, January 2006

A brief interruption of our long winter break from this summertime blog to report on my recent trip to beaches in Brazil. Rio's Copacabana beach is not bad if you are the type who likes Oak Street on a hot summer weekend day. The beaches of Salvador were better, but more suited to surfing than swimming. For the most part the "salva-vidas" (lifeguards) were either non-existent or far in the background, but my hotel would make Evanston proud. The sign, loosely translated is "water closed".
