Evanston, August 30, 2017

Conditions were not exactly perfect, but close enough. Sunny, no wind, water 70-71 degrees, perfectly flat with 1 foot swells. The non-lake swimmer might think the last point is an oxymoron but those who do lake swim know what I mean, no ripples or chop. Basically non-stop to the wall and back but Jody and I did stop to watch a large cormorant perched on the far wall with wings partly extended to be ready to fly. Quite impressive.

Evanston, August 26

Lots of things have prevented me from lake swimming but finally with Jody back from the eclipse we were able to go. The prediction was 1-2 feet, South wind, east waves which didn't sound too bad. It was closer to 2-3 feet once we got off the beach. We did most of a full swim but avoided the walls because of the waves. It was hard work, but worth the effort. Water was a pleasant 70.5 degrees.

Evanston, August 1

Its hard to believe that it is August 1 and we have hardly gotten started with open water. This is only the second full Lake swim I have done this season. But conditions were near perfect, 74 degree water, not glass flat but close to it with a few small ripples and a 3 inch swell. There was a shallow overcast and the water was not completely clear. Also the beach in the break area has become quite pebelly with some small rocks mixed in. On the plus side it was much easier to park during a weekday.

Jody and I did a wall to wall swim, but not hurried. Our only accompaniment were seagulls, lots of geese swimming in packs and one lone lady paddleboarder.
